Local 12 Women's Committee celebrated their 30th Anniversary on Sunday, March 16th with a wonderful luncheon.  The decorations were really lovely and food wonderful.   Among the speakers were Mayor Finkbeiner, Representative Marcy Kaptur and UAW Int'l Sec.-Treas. Elizabeth Bunn.  Congratulations to the entire Women's Committee on 30 wonderful years of contributing so much to our community.  Wishing you continued success in the years ahead.

March 26, 2008 is the Local 12 Luncheon meeting at the Local 12 Hall beginning at noon.

The next Jeep Retirees' meeting at Local 12 will be on April 9, 2008 beginning at noon.  There are donuts and coffee available before and during these meetings.  A bingo game is held after the meeting with all proceeds going back to the participants.  We welcome all Jeep Retirees to come and enjoy the company.

On April 16, 2008 we'll be meeting at the Golden Corral.  Jeep Retirees are welcome to come to this meeting also.  Lunch begins at 11:00 followed by a brief meeting at noon.  We are always looking for new retirees to join us at this meeting.  It's a very social gathering.

A date to keep in mind this spring is May 14th for our annual card party.
It will be held at the Local 12 UAW Hall.  Doors open at 10:00 AM.  Donation is $5.00 and a light lunch will be included.   We are asking for donations of deserts and raffle prizes.   If you're not a card player, bring a board game to play with friends.  This card party is to benefit the Assistance program for laid off workers and is a nice opportunity to socialize while helping a good cause.

Congratulations to newly elected members of the Jeep Retiree Committee.  They are: Tom Dorn, Treasurer; Marv Machinski, Sergeant at Arms; and Diane Spaulding, Historian.  Thanks to committee members who retired:  Jerry Smith, Treasurer; John Smith, Sergeant at Arms; and Betty Nowicki, Historian.

Happy March Birthdays to: John Cousino, John Smith, Pete Smith and Bob Thompson.

A reminder to bring your old blue jeans to the Local 12 Union Hall for recycling.  They will be sent to an organization which converts them into quilts to send to the boys overseas.

Bowlers are still needed for Tuesdays at Jugs on Jackman Rd.  Games begin at noon.

A card or even a visit from friends would be most welcome to the following people:   Wanda Ciesielski, The Franciscan Care Center-Sylvania, 4111 N. Holland-Sylvania Rd., Toledo, OH  43623-2503; Helen Fuller, Spring Meadows, 1125 Clarion, Rm. 408A, Holland, OH 43528 and Mary Segur, Swan Creek Retirement Village, 1650 Swan Creek Lane, Toledo, OH 43614.

Convalescing at home are Hazel Hardy, U404 County Rd. 13, Napoleon, OH 43545 and Eleanor Kaiser would also welcome hearing from friends.  Her address is 4321 Gilhouse Rd., Toledo, OH  43623.   If you know of anyone who is under the weather and would enjoy hearing from friends, please let me know at one of our meetings and I'll be sure to mention them in this column.

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE

After working his farm every day, an old farmer rarely had time to enjoy the large pond in the back that he had fixed up years earlier with picnic tables, horseshoe courts, and benches. So one evening he decided to go down and see how things were holding up. Much to his surprise, he heard voices shouting and laughing with glee. As he came closer he saw it was a group of young women skinny dipping in his pond.

He made the women aware of his presence and they all went to the deep end. One of the women shouted to him, "We're not coming out until you leave."

The old farmer replied, "I didn't come down here to watch you ladies swim or make you get out of the pond naked. I only came down to feed the alligator."

Moral: Old age and treachery will always triumph over youth and skill.
